Caro figli e amici,
I pick up the story from where we left it – a Napoli. Day 2, yesterday, we visited the Museo Nationale Archiologico. Just amazing, with many artifacts from Pompeii, 2,000 year old frescos and a whole gallery full of intricate mosaics was a highlight.
Another surprise under the San Lorenzo Maggiore was La Neopolis Sotterrata. Excavation under the church has uncovered a well-preserved Roman city. See the pic of Sally strolling down a Roman street. As is not unusual in Italy, we could actually walk on the roads, enter the rooms and touch the walls.

We ended the day with Neopolitan pizzas at Sorbillo lungo da mare, on the waterfront – see pic below.

Today we were driven to Positano – and it is horrible. To get to the beach, you have to wander down this winding road full of restaurants, bars, clothes shops and shoe shops, and tourists – see first pic of the beach from this unattractive street.

When you reach the beach, you find black sand and a sea of umbrellas. It was enough to make us climb back up hundreds of stairs to a late lunch at Positano Cafe, where we had to satisfy ourselves with bufala mozzarella, pomodoro and rucola. It was so bad, we had to buy prosecco to wash it down. The next pic shows Sally waiting for our lunch at the restaurant. Not sure why she is smiling.

We have settled into our room at Casa Maresca. The last pic shows the view from our bed. Luckily there are curtains, so we can block it out. Our friends, Wendy and Peter always stay here, but couldn’t last time because it was booked out.

If you are thinking of coming to Positano, my advice is this – do the right thing by people like Wendy and Peter, who actually seem to enjoy it….and don’t come!
Ha Ha….é un gioco! Il Positano é buonisimo.
Vi vediamo, Colin and Sally
