OK, Positano is growing on me. Maybe it’s the relaxed vibe, the measured pace (similar to Napoli) , except for the occasional idiot on a scooter, the food, the endless array of postcard-like vistas….it could even be sitting on the balcony looking over Positano each evening enjoying a limoncello before going to bed.
It’s also a bit like Noosa, and I like Noosa (Sally says it is like Noosa on steroids).
To catch up, we finished Monday night at Mediterraneo – paccheri, broccoli e vongole, and scialatielli, cozze e vongole (two beautiful dishes with mussels and clams).
Tuesday we explored Positano and then enjoyed amazing pizzas at Lo Guaccino overlooking the bay – see a couple of pics from each end of Spiagga Grande.

Today we caught the ferry to Amalfi. Interestingly a major naval port in the 13th century. Which explains the massive duomo – see pic – left.
We then caught a bus to Ravello and two magnificent villas, Villa Rudolfo and Villa Cimbrone. Both have beautiful, sprawling gardens – see pics. Cimbrone dates to the 11th century, but in the mid 20th century, hosted the likes of Winston Churchill. DH Lawrence and Greta Garbo and more recently, Colin Law and Sally Eales.
After a crazy bus trip back to Positano we dined at Vincenzo’s. The sea bass baked in bread crumbs was delicious, washed down with a very acceptable vino rosso della casa (locally made in Ravello).
Tomorrow we have hired a small motor boat and will be doing our own private boat tour up the coast.
Fino alla prossima volta.
Ciao, Colin and Sally
