After breakfast on the Magnifique I, we all mounted our bikes for the nearly 50 km ride to Saarburg. After an initial pleasant ride along the Moselle, we crossed a bridge over the river to Luxemburg – which appears to be a very wealthy country with only around 850,000 inhabitants, expensive cars and houses, cheap petrol, and…some very good wine!

We visited the cellars of Jean Bernard-Massard who make a Cremant sparkling in the traditional style (can’t call it champagne) plus a wide range of still whites and reds.

We stopped for lunch in the beautiful village, Ville de Grevenmacher, and then enjoyed a picturesque ride along the river with vineyards on either side. Eventually, we turned right at the junction of the Saar River, towards Saarburg, where we were to spend the night.
After an easy ride along a tree-framed bike path along the Saar, we caught up with our ship docked at Saarburg.

Today saw us heading off to Trier with a little trepidation as the skies were very cloudy and looking ominous. Our luck with the weather ran out about an hour into our ride with a significant shower for 30 minutes or so – almost, but not quite enough to dampen our enthusiasm.

Some coffee and apple pie in Konz cheered us up and helped us finish the journey to Trier.

Great barbeque dinner on board tonight. More two wheeled adventures tomorrow.
