Beautiful weather again on Monday for the last day of our boat bike tour, as we set off on a leisurely 39 km bike ride to our final destination at Cochem. The landscape is gradually changing from vineyards on every available piece of land above the river, no matter how steep, to larger areas of woodland.

Our first stop is at the village of Beilstein, which is a beautifully preserved historical village – and somewhat a tourist trap. Still, it was worth the visit and we enjoyed a reisling in the square.

After Beilstein, the Reichsberg Castle appearing in the distance meant we were nearing Cochem. After almost 300 kms of cycling, we are close to our final destination. This has been a fantastic trip with much to see and discover.

Dinner and drinks on the final night were a lot of fun with Chef Jules putting on a special meal. The crew has been great, our tour guides, Ernna and Maaike were really good with their stories and professionalism. And we met some very nice people from the USA and Canada, some of whom, I think we may catch up with again. Some were even somewhat famous. Like Joe Upton, a former crab boat skipper on the Bering Sea before Netflix made them famous with Deadliest Catch (one of Joe’s books is “Alaska Blues”).

Today, we catch the train to Dusseldorf!
