We’ve begun our adventure in Begur. Well, we are actually a few kilometres north of the town of Begur, perched on the hillside between Platja de sa Riera and Platja del Racó – both beautiful beaches.

Our first three days were spent relaxing in our wonderful rented house, walking to the beach, exploring the local area and of course, celebrating a major birthday milestone. It is amazing that we could manage to have 16 people travelling to join in the party – 13 from Australia, two from London and one from Greece. We certainly tried our best to support the Spanish wine industry.

Today, we drove the few kilometres over winding, hilly local roads to the beautiful village of Begur, with its medieval centre and ruined 16th century castle.
We did decide to walk up the hill to the castle – maybe not a brilliant idea at midday, but the view was spectacular.

We wandered back to town through the meandering narrow streets with their neat white houses.

Lunch and a cervesa was the reward at a pleasant cafe in the square in town. The streets and lanes in the central part of the town are full of cafes, restaurants, a delicatessen, and many clothes and souvenir shops. It is a very attractive area and certainly worth a visit.

Back at the house, we are thinking about a Spanish barbeque. Life is good!

What a great start. And you can eat and drink what you like after a hike up a hill.
