Our main reason for visiting Granada was to see the Alhambra. However, we quickly realised that we could have included a longer visit to this interesting town on our itinerary.

After finding a car park and locating our AirBNB apartment, we set off up the hill for Alhambra.
And it was quite a walk, but worth the effort. My extensive research (on Wikipedia), tells me that Alhambra is a palace and fortress originally constructed in AD 889. And then, its ruins were renovated and rebuilt in the mid-13th century by the Nasrid Emir of the Emirate of Granada. After the Christians finally kicked the Moors out of Spain around 1492, the Alhambra became a palace for King Ferdinand.
It is now assaulted daily by thousands of tourists, who enjoy what remains of the Nasrid Palace and beautiful gardens.

The pictures tell the story. We finished a great day in Granada at the Bodegas Casteñeda. We had to badger the head waiter for a table and drink beers in the bar while we waited. The food and wine were excellent.

The anchovies in particular were fantastic.
The wine was an excellent local drop, a Muñana 3 Cepos 2012 Cabernet Sauvignon, Tempranillo, Merlot.
The next day was to be the start of our adventure in Madrid.

What a beautiful palace, such a green respite. I love how your day always features a food event. I think you’re helping me plan my next itinerary.
