The first leg of our latest European adventure has begun. Last Wednesday, we boarded our Singapore Airlines flight to Paris via Singapore. Twenty something hours later, we caught the TGV fast train to Reims then a local train to Epernay. Then a short walk to our beautiful rental house at 46 Ave Paul Chandon.

Epernay is a picturesque town in the centre of the Champagne area and home to many Champagne houses including Moet and Chandon.

After a late lunch of fromage and beer and champagne at a welcoming cafe, we caught up with the others – Lindsay, Megan, Peter and Wendy for the first phase of our trip.

Started Friday with a train ride to Reims and a fantastic visit and tasting at Taitinger. Explored some of their over two kilometres of caves full of maturing champagne and then settled in for a tasting with a gourmet food tasting to complement the champagne. The rose champagne was a winner.

Then a short walk to a lunch and tasting at Ruinart – Epernay is hard work!
Great lunch and another enjoyable visit.

Saturday found us on the train again to Reims to briefly explore the City and Cathedral before we set off on another wine tour.

After lunch, we set off on our tour of small producers with our guide Baptiste with a visit firstly to Louis Brouchet.

After a short stopover at the tomb of Dom Perignon, we tried the champagne at Alexandre Mea Devavry – also fantastic.

With our palates definitely becoming somewhat challenged, we set off through the vineyards back to Epernay. Another great day in Champagne. Tomorrow off to Metz.

Fabulous and delightful description Col. The champagne seems to broaden your pallet with no mention of beer! The gang looks great and well behaved so far! Bravo and Brava. Gary
