For our final day in Begur, we decided on a trip to visit the medieval city of Besalú. It was designated an historical national property in 1966.

This a beautiful small town with paved streets and picturesque squares. We enjoyed simply strolling around, visited the two churches and found a cafe in the square for lunch.

Drove back to our house in Begur for a final swim at the beach and found a nice restaurant for dinner with the family before they went in different directions over the next few weeks.

Yesterday, we sadly bid adios to Begur, delivered some travellers to Girona and to Barcelona Airport, and set out for Zaragoza in the heart of Aragon.
After checking in, we walked into the City centre and visited the amazing baroque Nuestra Señora del Pilar basilica. The size of the basilica and richness of the various chapels was impressive.

We then recovered at the hotel after a long day, and were joined by four other travellers from our house at Begur. We found a table for eight at the Restaurante Asador de Aranda. The restaurant specialises in wood-fired oven baked lamb and didn’t disappoint. The accompanying garnacha from Campo Borja was also amazing.

Today, we started the day with a visit to the Aljaferia Palace with its many historical artifacts and the Goya Museum (while its permanent home is being renovated).
